Heroes Come In All Shapes and Sizes

I was about 13 yrs old the first time I saw David Bowie on a Saturday Night Live rerun.

And the sight freaked me out.

I thought I knew some basic things, but here I couldn’t tell if it was a man, or a woman, or a robot? I couldn’t comprehend what I was seeing.

But I recognized the song he played. The popular sound and the obscure sight of him totally clashed and my idea of who an artist could be expanded.

It was a moment where I learned you don’t always have to look the part to play the part.

He was a great artist before anyone could google “how to be a great artist” and follow a few artsy life hacks.

Obviously knowing his own condition, Bowie released his last album a week ago. It had to be a last gift to his fans.
